NMM is collecting signatures from Nebraska voters on two ballot petitions. Each petition contains a statutory measure — similar to a bill that might be introduced in the state legislature — that we hope to enact into Nebraska law. If enough Nebraska voters sign our petition sheets, both medical cannabis measures will qualify for the November 2024 general election ballot. If a majority of Nebraska voters approve both measures, they become law once the results of the election are certified.

The Patient Protection Act

Protects patients with serious health conditions and their caregivers from arrest for the use of medical cannabis as recommended by a health care provider.

Object statement: Enact a statute that makes penalties inapplicable under state and local law for the use, possession, and acquisition of limited quantities of cannabis for medical purposes by a qualified patient with a written recommendation from a health care practitioner, and for a caregiver to assist a qualified patient in these activities.

The Medical Cannabis Regulation Act

Establishes the Nebraska Medical Cannabis Commission to regulate private businesses that provide medical cannabis to qualified patients.

Object statement: Enact a statute that makes penalties inapplicable under state law for the possession, manufacture, distribution, delivery, and dispensing of cannabis for medical purposes by registered private entities, and establishing a Nebraska Medical Cannabis Commission to regulate such entities.

Our campaign needs at least 87,000 verified voter signatures for each petition to qualify the measures for the 2022 ballot. The deadline to file our petition sheets and signatures is July 3, 2024.
