2026 Compassionate Candidate Pledge

In November 2024, Nebraska voters made their voices clear on medical cannabis. After almost two years, the program that voters expected does not exist. The Compassionate Candidate Pledge is a public commitment from candidates running for office to respect the will of voters and support a safe, accessible, and functional medical cannabis program. Specifically, these candidates have committed to:

1. Respect and uphold the will of Nebraska voters on medical cannabis in accordance with both of the statutes passed.

2. Support legal protections for healthcare practitioners who recommend medical cannabis.

3. Oppose efforts to delay, weaken, or dismantle Nebraska’s medical cannabis program.

4. Hold the Medical Cannabis Commission accountable to the statutes.

5. Support the “whole-plant” statute, including raw flower, vaporization, edible products, and all methods of inhalation.

6. Oppose limits to the voter-approved 5 oz patient possession amount and THC caps.

7. Support legislation that strengthens the program.

8. Listen to patients, caregivers, families, and industry experts.
